Einarr: “Ek var hirðmaðr stólkonungs veitla í Miklagarði. Vér drukkum konunglig vín ok snæddum af gulldiskum ok sváfum á purpurapelli…” Einar: “I was man of generous Greek emperor in Miklagard. We were drinking royal wine, eating from golden dishes and sleeping on costly stuff…”
Kálfr: “Hví yfirgaftu sællífa þann svá fljótt?” Calf: “Why did you leave this luxury so fast?”
Einarr: “Um kveldit kom konungrinn aptr í höll sína ok var allreiðr, er hann sá þat.” Einar: “The emperor returned into his hall tonight and was very angry, when saw all that.”
